5 Creative Ideas for PPC Ads

Since “if you build it they will come” rarely holds true on the web, we are constantly exploring new methods of traffic generation for our clients. Part of the traffic generation puzzle is an effective Paid Search, or Pay-Per-Click campaign.

We’ve all seen these sponsored links on search engines, but as the paid search landscape becomes more competitive, it becomes more important to have ads that stand out. Here are some creative ads that should spark some new ideas for your PPC accounts.

1: Quotes in Your Ad Text

“We tripled our

site conversions with Envision’s SEO program.”EnvisionSuccess.net

This is one format we’ve recently have had a lot of success with.

2: Eye-Catching URLs

Usually, you stuff a keyword in the URL, but adding some pizazz to the URL might make this ad stand out.

3: The Quiz Question

Envision is…

A. Avuncular   B. Facile
C. Smart   D. Omnipresent EnvisionSuccess.net

Are you impressed that I still remember my SAT words? I tried to fit “defenestration”, but it made the ad too long.

4: The Old URL-in-the-Headline Trick

5: The Stalker Ad

Made famous by the Google Job Experiment. This type of ad could work in 2 ways:

  1. Run PPC ads for prospects’ names as keywords, hoping that they google themselves, or
  2. Geo-target your ads to a prospect’s location, hoping that he/she googles your company name or service.

Of course, the downside to some of these ads, is that they are not keyword-rich. Keyword-rich ads are seen as relevant by AdWords (Google’s PPC product); relevant ads rank higher in sponsored links. However, the click-through rates of your ads are even more important to Google. So, if you are a true ad wizard, your increase in clicks will improve your rankings in the sponsored links, despite the lack of keywords. There is more upside to running creative ads.

What are your outside-the-box ad ideas?
